Lessons learned from reviewing 22,000+ pitch decks
Speaker: Rob Vickery, Founder & VC
International VC Rob Vickery has had the pleasure of receiving over 22,000 pitch decks (yes, he keeps track!) during his nearly fifteen years as a pre-seed and seed-stage startup investor. Out of those, he invested in forty-five teams of entrepreneurs. Four of those teams have successfully exited, and one has now achieved unicorn status.
So, what was it about those pitch decks that stood out? What makes for a memorable deck that investors want to read and explore further? Considering that some investors spend only 30 seconds reviewing a presentation before deciding whether to proceed or decline, these documents need to shine quickly!
Freshly relocated back to Cornwall, Rob invites you to spend some time with him as he shares stories, breaks down the elements of a great pitch deck, and shows you how to increase your chances of success in your first meeting.
16:20 – 17:20
Closing Keynote: Fireside chat with Liza Tullidge & Niki Davies
Speakers: Liza Tullidge & Niki Davies
Join Liza and Niki for a dynamic fireside chat that explores the evolving dynamics of building and running a successful company while keeping a human-first approach at the forefront. This conversation will dive into the importance of diversity in leadership, defining what success truly means beyond the bottom line, and building profitable ventures with purpose rather than merely chasing investment. Learn from Liza, a seasoned entrepreneur about leveraging available resources, understanding your personal and professional readiness for entrepreneurship, and identifying that critical jumping point to take the leap. Whether you’re a startup founder or a seasoned business leader, this session will provide valuable insights on how to lead with impact, align purpose with profit, and create meaningful change.
17:20 – 17:30: Daytime session ends

Evening
Join us for Demo Night with Canopy Community!
Join us for some evening refreshments and a vibrant Demo Night with Canopy Community. You’ll see 5 founders demo their technology to gain critical insight from a friendly audience that could help them shape their product roadmap.
18:00 – 20:00
Demo Night with Canopy Community
Sponsored by Cornwall Trade & Investment. Your daytime Cornwall Slush’D ticket includes free access to Demo Night.
Demo Night exists to help Founders break the #1 reason for startup failure – that we build things no one wants or needs! We do this by sharing our ideas and being open to feedback, critical reflection and inspiration from a diverse audience.
Failure rates for startups and spin outs can peak as high as 90% in the first three years. There are persistent reasons for failures and the silver bullet is how well you listen to your customers & critical feedback around you. The genius of each Founder is in finding the right pathway from that feedback – not just following their own voice, but building through iterative collaboration and validation.
Demo Night is an open platform.
Our belief is that “Diversity is a strength” when it comes to bringing innovation to market and we are looking for you to bring your own reflections to others as part of this process, as well as providing an opportunity for you to gain from the experience of others.
Tonight, you will watch demo’s from five Cornwall-based startups:
- Blackdog Applications
- Bluefruit Labs
- Kaiako AI
- Time4Good
- Wylder
The Startups

The Cornwall Slush’D Pitch Competition is in partnership with Google Cloud.
Demo Night Participants
Five Cornwall-based startups are participating in Canopy Community’s infamous Demo Night from 6pm at Cornwall Slush’D. This is a demo, not a pitch. Demo Night is kindly sponsored by Cornwall Trade & Investment.
